picoCAD
Ahhh, yes, the wonderful age of the early 2000s.
These were some of my fondest moments that led me to have such a profound love for technology. It only made sense to use picoCAD for this piece due to its art style, which was prominent at this time with Nintendo's N64 and Sony's Ps1.
Now, while I was too young to carry out conversations at the wonderful age of 2... I was most certainly old enough to save Princess Peach in "Super Mario World 1" and Brave enough to escape the shark in "Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing".
This time period taught me patience, resilience, and strategy!
Yes, even outside the video games.
Anyone born and living in this time period knew that using the internet meant that your landline wouldn't work since dial-up would use the line to transmit the internet data, meaning you could only use ONE at a time. Cellphones were still making their way into people's pockets, but were less popular than the beeper.
Why is this important? Because being born into a Hispanic household, we'd all see our mothers sit by the phone to speak with their friends or family... and let me tell you those conversations would last HOURS before we could use the internet!
So... we'd hop on before the calls were made. Strategy.
Our parents then found out and would limit the time we spent on the computer. Resilience.
And, after a (long) while, they finally updated to DSL internet, which allowed both to be used at the same time... Patience.
This time period wasn't for the weak.
Games were hard.
Web content was limited.
But it did shape my taste in music!
picoCAD is actually really easy (especially when you read the manual and watch YouTube tutorials! 🥸). I definitely still got frustrated when modeling since creating a sphere is challenging. Placing objects around in the space is another adventure, but with patience, you can get things seated where you need them! (Thank you, Jesus 💀🙌) They do have a toolbox add-on that comes with the program, which allows you to export the work you made into Autodesk Maya, Blender, Blockbench, etc.
The creators will also be releasing a picoCAD 2, which I am extremely excited to get my hands on! Final note, the art style seems reminiscent of the Nintendo DS as well.
